The loose drop weight of a relatively uniform (all the rocks are similar size and shape) 3/4" stone will be about 80-90% depending on the stone (angularity and phi). Presuming that you are compacting to of some form of "proctor density", because you're awesome at compacting and have a monster machine (and thin lifts), that's 100/80=125%.
Aug 28, 2005· In some localities, the # 57 Stone and other poorly graded (geologist-well sorted)gravels and sands have been utilized as 'self compacting' stabilizing aggregates with an excellant track record. In some other parts of the world, disasters have resulted. I recommend you approach 'self compacting' aggregates with care.

Mar 23, 2020· About #57 Limestone Gravel The size of #57 Stone is 1 inch and under. #57 Stone is the most common driveway gravel in Florida. #57 Stone is commonly used as a drainage gravel. #57 Stone is also used in mix concrete, mix asphalt and as bases for retaining walls and driveways.
Compacting very deep layers of stone can be extremely difficult and may lead to poor results. For this reason, deep project areas require stone compaction to be completed in layers. Only after one layer is properly compacted can more stone be introduced. Depending on the depth, you may need to make 3 or more passes before the surface is solid.
Mar 07, 2006· Earthwork contractors consider Size No. 57 stone to be "self compacting" because they don't want to pay for labor to compact it. But to do it right and you still need a plate compactor for slab-on-grade applications and to tamp it with the backhoe bucket if used to backfill undercut footings. Depends on the material and the application.
57 stone is an easily consolidated material but it is not self-consolidating. 57 stone can settle about 1″ per foot of thickness. No. 57 stone should be placed in lifts and consolidated using conventional compaction techniques. Compacted gravel is used to provide a level base for walking on or for laying brick pavers. Compacting gravel can be a labor-intensive process and can be costly if you hire a professional to do. However, with the right tools and directions, you can lay the compacted gravel yourself, saving hundreds of dollars.

Clean gravels and crushed rock are sometimes referred to as "self-compacting," meaning that if they are dumped in beside a pipe, the material will have a high density. Owners, engineers, contractors and inspectors have been known to use this expression. Some even claim that dumping in gravel and crushed rock will result in 95 percent ...

Compaction testing of #57 stone with a nuclear gauge or other device is not possible, even though many specifications state that it should be compacted to 95% of Proctor values. Using compaction equipment, # 57 stone will typically compact about one inch in vertical height, which is equivalent to about 8% settlement.
