With a round column you will only be able to CNC the quill which will be limiting and your best to keep the quill in as much as possible while milling. You will also need to add ball screws to your list.

I had a round column Harbor Freight mill drill without the add-on power feed and I sold it for $500 about 8 months ago. $1,500 sounds high for me. For that kind of money, you should be looking for a Bridgeport.
